From an early age, Mike Szpot showed a creative side, shooting skateboarding videos with his friends. His interest in photography took hold one day when he happened upon a photographer on Instagram whose work completely enthralled him. He was instantly inspired to pick up his camera and start exploring his surroundings, and from that moment on the passion that ensued has dominated his life. Photography has given Mike a whole new perspective, opening doors of opportunity that he never had imagined.
Mike tries to avoid limiting his style to one look or genre, preferring to experiment with a bit of everything from cityscape to portraiture. The common theme across his work is an urban, moody feel, reflecting his tendency to be drawn to the grittier side of things. He edits with Lightroom, working with his own custom presets to start and then adjusting to achieve the desired effect.
Mike’s work is featured in Trope Chicago, the first in the Trope City Editions series, a collection of urban and architectural photography books of cities around the world by today’s emerging photographers.
