Candy took up photography while she was still at university and exploring her own aesthetic and personal style. Today, she is particularly drawn to color and patterns, in architecture or motifs in nature, both recurring elements in her images. She strives to convey a sense of narrative in her photography, finding ready inspiration in the lively, exhilarating streets of Hong Kong. Even having lived there for several years, she admits she is still struck by its spectacular skyline and infectious energy.
Candy prefers to shoot outdoors, taking advantage of natural lighting whenever possible. She often uses her iPhone for quick compositions and everyday use, but she finds something special in looking through the viewfinder of her trusty Sony a7 II, explaining that it helps her to feel more focused and immersed in the moment. She usually edits from scratch, importing RAW files to Lightroom and then bringing an image into Photoshop if further edits are needed. In addition to her passion for photography, Candy also enjoys her work in PR and digital marketing.
“Photography has taught me to be more patient and to appreciate the beauty in the fine details of life. Sometimes it’s about observing and waiting for the right moment, and other times, it’s about having the courage to ‘make’ the moment myself. It’s also made me stay curious and fueled my desire to be spontaneous and discover what is outside of my comfort zone.”
Candy's images are featured in Trope Hong Kong, volume three in the Trope City Editions series, which celebrates the colorful chaos and architectural order of this iconic city.
