Selene was raised in Ankara, Turkey, before moving to Los Angeles and later to London. An aerodynamicist, design engineer, and entrepreneur, she discovered her love for street photography during her seven years in Los Angeles. Inspired by the legendary photographer Ara Güler, also known as the Eye of Istanbul, she began documenting the visual history around her, creating a narrative through her lens, focusing on places and objects others might overlook.
She founded Latmus Photography, named after Mount Latmus in Turkey, a nod to the Greek myth of the moon goddess Selene. Just as the myth transforms a typical landscape into something extraordinary, Selene's photography aims to capture the magic in the mundane. Her approach to street photography is rooted in storytelling, framing everyday scenes in a way that reveals their hidden beauty and significance.
Selene loves exploring the streets of Los Angeles, London, and Istanbul, imagining frames and shots that uncover the gems hidden in the ordinary. Urban environments, with their endless combinations and instances, provide a goldmine for her creativity. She loves using shadows, reflections, and creative framing to transform daily sights into powerful compositions, finding the extraordinary in the ordinary.
