We are absolutely over the moon to share that our Trope City Edition London book has been awarded the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards 2020 ‘Nikon Photography Travel Book of the Year’.
Winners were announced at a ceremony held at London's Transport Museum in Covent Garden on 26th February 2020, and were presented with a handmade globe exclusively designed for the awards.
The ceremony started with a brilliant and inspiring pre-awards speech from Vivien Godfrey, Chairman and CEO of Edward Stanford, who spoke to how the awards seek to celebrate the best travel writing and writers each year. Globe-trotting BBC presenter Julia Bradbury then took over and hosted the ceremony.
Our City Edition London and Emerging Photographers Lucy Hamidzadeh and Ope Odueyungbo fantastically represented Trope at the awards, and soldiered through butterflies and nervous anticipation as our nominated category approached.
Upon winning the award, Lucy and Ope were completely lost for words, but subsequently shared with us how delighted they were…
"To be nominated against the likes of Monty Don, Colin Salter, and all the other photographers and writers felt like an achievement in itself, but for Trope London to actually win… there are no words! When I heard “…and the winner is…Trope” I went into complete shock mode. I’m never going to forget that moment! To be honest, it’s all a bit of a blur after that, but we made it to the stage and I just remember giving each judge a huge hug. I was stunned beyond words and just so humbled to accept the award on behalf of the entire Trope team and all of the featured photographers. It is a really special feeling to be included in such a beautifully curated book on my home city, to share my love of photography and to play a small part in the Trope London journey. I’m ridiculously happy for everyone involved.” – Lucy Hamidzadeh
“It was just a great honour to be there representing Trope. Walking up to accept the award on their behalf totally took me by surprise (in the best possible way!). I have always been so grateful to be involved in the London book, and this moment here just filled me with so much more gratitude, pride and joy.” - Ope Odueyungbo
Harry Skeggs – Nikon judge and award-winning photographer – made the following comment just before announcing Trope London as the category winner
“This was a book for me that stood individually as beautiful photographs, but also worked collectively to propel the message of the book in its own right; so much more than simple decoration, but a narrative tour de force. In the end, an almost unanimous winner.”
All of us at Trope would like to thank Vivien Godfrey and the entire Edward Stanford team, everyone on the judging panel at Nikon, Harry Skeggs, Julia Bradbury, and especially all of our extremely talented London featured photographers. The short-listed nomination alone was a huge honour for us, as all of our fellow nominees were amazing and award worthy travel photograph books.
Our love for London runs deep.
