Trope New York: Welcome to Your City

Trope New York: Welcome to Your City

The Trope City Edition series is a curated collection of urban images taken by photographers from around the world. The New York Edition is comprised of 216 photographs produced by 29 independent photographers from New York and beyond. Editors Michelle Fitzgerald and Jack Van Boom spent over a year identifying and meeting with the photographers included in the book, meticulously editing their portfolios to produce this unique first edition. While the photographers come from a wide range of backgrounds, they share a common passion to visually capture this vibrant city like never before. Shooting tirelessly, day and night, in good weather or rain or snow, they all work to get "the shot" - resulting in images that offer a new perspective on the city.

The New York Edition is divided into five chapters, primarily focused on Manhattan, showcasing iconic New York buildings and landmarks and parks, as well as the streets and neighborhoods that define the day-to-day experience of New Yorkers. Each chapter is accompanied by a map of the area marked with the location where the photograph was taken. This collection is first and foremost about photography, and the images reflect the interest of the photographers rather than serving as a comprehensive guide to the city. In many cases, there are several photographs of the same location, shot at different times of the day, in different seasons, with different tones. These studies offer a strong point-of-view, giving each image a contemporary and urban sensibility.

A global cultural and financial center, New York is sometimes referred to as "the capital of the world." Is it home to 8.8 million people who live in 300 square miles - the most densely populated city in the United States - and is one of the most visited locations in the world. Defined by its universally recognized skyline, vibrant nightlife, and cultural diversity, New York is a city that is constantly transforming. This unforgettable collection of images represents that evolution, presenting a dynamic city that is both steeped in history and relentlessly progressing.
