Carlos Segura

Carlos Segura, the founder of Segura Inc. - a Chicago-based design firm, has had an interesting creative journey. He immigrated to the United States from Cuba at the age of nine and initially pursued a career as a drummer. Later, he became a production artist in graphic design and worked for various prestigious advertising agencies such as BBDO, Marsteller, Foote Cone & Belding, Young & Rubicam, Ketchum, and DDB Needham.

In 1991, Carlos Segura founded Segura Inc. with the aim of bringing a more creative approach to design and combining "fine art" with "commercial art." This venture was just the beginning of a series of successful commercial ventures that followed. In 1994, Segura founded the T26 Digital Type Foundry to explore the typographical side of the business.

Both Segura Inc. and T26 have been widely recognized and have received numerous awards from prestigious organizations around the world. These include the Red Dot, Tokyo Type Directors Club, The Society of Typographic Arts, and the New York Art Directors Club and the New York Type Directors Club, among others. In 2017, Carlos Segura was awarded the AIGA Fellowship Award.

His work has been featured in various publications such as Graphis, Archive, Print, Communication Arts, HOW, and publications by Taschen, Slanted, PIE Books, North Light Books, Duncan Baird Publishing, F&W Publications, Rockport Publishers, and Die Gestalten Verlag Publishing, among others. Additionally, his work has been exhibited in prominent galleries around the world, from the Denver Art Museum to Tokyo, Japan.

Taschen’s 2003 annual "GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR THE 21st CENTURY" named Carlos Segura as one of the 21st century's 100 best designers. In 2013 and 2014, he was featured in the "Design 50: Who Shapes Chicago." In 2004, Segura ventured into a new category and launched Cartype - a creative archive of the automotive industry.

We are extremely excited to add Carlos Segura to our Trope community of artists!
