The Trope team was overjoyed to welcome friends and fans to celebrate the launch of LGBTQ+ Icons by David Lee Csicsko and Owen Keehnen with a talk, book signing, and gallery show on September 22.
The exhibit featured David Lee Csicsko’s bold, graphic illustrations from LGBTQ+ Icons, highlighting some historic figures from the arts, including Frida Kahlo, Freddie Mercury, and Alvin Ailey, among others. Also highlighted were illustrations from Csicsko’s forthcoming book, Science People (Fall 2022), and his “Saints Collection”.
Michelle Fitzgerald, Trope’s Director of Marketing and Operations, welcomed guests and moderated a conversation between David and Owen that shed light on the origins of LGBTQ+ Icons and the process of creating the book. Owen and David also stressed the timeliness of a book that celebrates LGBTQ+ figures in the arts at a time when many states are reverting back to “Don’t Say Gay” legislation.
Following the talk, David and Owen graciously answered audience questions and signed books for attendees.
We were excited to share LGBTQ+ Icons with such an enthusiastic audience and look forward to sharing more of Trope artists’ works in future exhibits.
