Originally planned for April 2020 and rescheduled twice due to Covid, the team was delighted to host our first Trope gallery exhibit in our studio and office space on April 29. A crowd of photographers, artists, and book lovers was on hand to view and celebrate the work of our talented artists.
The exhibit featured 52 images from the Trope Chicago City Edition. We were so pleased to be joined by several of the photographers featured in the book, including Kwe Bentum, Graham Chapman, Mike Poggioli, Sonja Weiss, and Pio Young.
In addition to the Trope Chicago photographers, we were also joined by David Lee Csicsko and Owen Keehnen, illustrator and author, respectively, of LGBTQ+ Icons, Tobi Shinobi, photographer of Equilibrium, Dave Hoekstra, who wrote the foreword for Natkin: The Moment of Truth, and Terry Maday, who produces Trope Films and the Trope Stories podcast series.
Though the exhibit’s main focus was Trope Chicago, we also highlighted work from award-winning illustrator David Lee Csicsko's new book LGBTQ+ Icons (June 2022) and legendary music photographer Paul Natkin’s forthcoming book Natkin: The Moment of Truth (July 2022).
As he welcomed event attendees, publisher Sam Landers described his vision for the future of Trope Publishing. We plan to continue collaborating with some of today's most exciting photographers and artists, while developing and improving a streamlined and environmentally-friendly production process.
After so much time thinking about and planning our first gallery event in our new space, we were excited to share it with so many friends, family, and photography fans. We’re already looking forward to future exhibits!
